At the end of September 2023, we organized work events on the topic of Implementation of temporary balancing measures by employers and diversity management at the workplace in Prešov (September 28, 2023) and Poprad (September 29, 2023).
The work events were attended by representatives of various actors in the field of employment, including labor, social and family offices, civil society, self-governing bodies and local employers, including social enterprises.
We discussed the nature of the institution of temporary compensatory measures and the role of the Center in setting up and evaluating them. We also addressed the challenges faced by employers in employing Roma and ways of supporting diversity in the workplace. We presented the participants with examples of good practice as well as inspiration from our study trip in Norway. Finally, we presented the services of the Labor Agency of the Banská Bystrica self-governing region in the field of employment counseling and support for the employment of Roma men and women, and the activities of its co-founding organization Human at Risk in the field of employment in the regions of the Prešov self-governing region.
At a working breakfast in Prešov, the company TESCO Stores SR presented its experience with receiving and reporting DVO, as well as activities aimed at supporting the employment of excluded groups. Part of the working brunch in Poprad was a tour of the training center of the Whirlpool Slovakia company, which has long-term employed Roma men and women from marginalized communities, as well as a presentation of the company’s activities and results in the field of diversity and inclusion. The communication partner of the working breakfast in Prešov was the American Chamber of Commerce, and the working brunch in Poprad was co-organized by the Diversity Charter Slovakia.
The work events were carried out as part of the project entitled “Temporary compensatory measures to increase the employment and education of Roma” supported by Norwegian grants 2014-2021 and the state budget of the Slovak Republic. The goal of the project is to increase awareness and better use of temporary compensatory measures in the employment of Roma men and women, especially from marginalized Roma communities.
